Illusions
by: Adah K.

The snow crunched under my bare feet, but I hardly noticed it.

I was staring at a big lump on the ground. I couldn't see it. It was hiding in the shadow. I took a step closer and I still could barely see anything. I put my face down next to it and I saw my own reflection. I jumped backwards breathing hard. I could feel my eyes wide with fear. I took a big gulp of air. I stood there not able to move. I could feel the bitter wind pushing against me but I didn't really feel the cold only the pressure of it.

I got down onto my hands and knees and started crawling toward the thing. As I got closer, I saw that it was not just my reflection but me lying on the sidewalk eyes glazed over staring at nothing but everything. I wanted to touch her but I knew she would be stone cold. Her skin was almost blue her lips purple. She looked so cold.

I tore my eyes away from her face and saw her body on her stomach. There was a dark red spot. I looked around and I saw lipstick and perfume laying on the ground but didn't see her purse. I wanted to cover her but just as the thought occurred to me, a dark shadow passed over me. I looked up and there was a tall man in a black robe standing there holding his hand out to me. I looked at him and asked, "Who are you?"
